Constructed Wetlands Knowledge Platform - the one-stop solution providing data and information about Constructed Wetlands to support research, policy-making, implementiation, and financing of Nature-based Solutions for sustainable development.
Platform allows to publish tabular and text data, manage theirs metadata and associated documents.
Platform allows registered users to easily upload geospatial data and various documents in several formats.
About 80% of all global wastewater is released untreated into the environment, which leads to a deterioration in water quality. Objectives 6.2 and 6.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to provide universal access to sanitation while improving water quality by halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and increasing its safe reuse.
Constructed Wetlands (CWs), a nature-based solution (NbS), can contribute to these goals. There is currently little knowledge about the contribution of CWs to the global amount of treated wastewater. Therefore a Global Knowledge Platform on Constructed Wetlands has been created by the Leibniz University Hannover at the Institute of Botany (LUH-BOT) with the collaboration of the l3S research center. It is an online platform on CWs that includes a database and a web-based geographic information system (WebGIS). It is an open-source knowledge platform of selected CW data and information that provides a global system for standardized data collection and management. Up to 134 different parameters can be recorded for each system, allowing detailed conclusions to be drawn about its structure and performance.
